Unique and extraordinary, much of the Encounters exhibition content was gathered from the private collections of UFOlogists from around the world. There are displays of more than 200 original artifacts, conceptual models, and documented film clips and recordings that support claims of ancient encounters through modern day sightings. Replicas and models include the famous Easter Island statues and Egyptian Hieroglyphic tablets reporting extraterrestrial sightings. The exhibition also explores the mysteries of Area 51 and Roswell, and features authentic video and audio recordings of people reporting alien encounters.
"We are especially excited about debuting this exhibition at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach," said Brian Bouquet of The Event Agency, the company responsible for developing Encounters: U.F.O. Experience. "Myrtle Beach has quite the reputation for U.F.O. sightings and had more than 50 just last year. Here - and around the world - people have been fascinated with the idea of alien encounters for centuries. So Myrtle Beach is the logical choice to be the first stop on what we expect to be a worldwide tour."
The opening day of Encounters was enhanced by the participation of respected nuclear physicist and UFOlogist Stanton Friedman who toured the exhibition; was interviewed by radio, TV and print media; and delivered a lecture entitled "Flying Saucers and Science."
"It is a genuine honor to have someone of Stanton's stature here for the opening of Encounters," said Bouquet. "Stan's an expert on Area 51, and was the original civilian investigator of the Roswell Incident. He is also well-known for his many lectures around the world, as well as his testimony to the U.S. Congress and the United Nations on the topic of U.F.O.s and his authoritative books. It's been a thrill for U.F.O. enthusiasts to get an opportunity to meet one of the giants in the field of U.F.O.s and we were really honored to have him with us."
The exhibition is scheduled to be at Broadway at the Beach through Labor Day. During April and May, it will be open Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Beginning Memorial Day, Encounters will be open seven days a week, Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
"Our exhibition comprehensively explores the most fascinating elements of reported encounters, government reactions to those reports, and even how movies have dealt with encounters," said Bouquet. "We believe it will open minds, trigger questions and fascinate those who go through it. We hope it will become the 2013 season's 'must-see' for millions of visitors who come to town."
Encounters is located on the northeastern side of Broadway at the Beach in a building distinguished by a flying saucer bursting from its side. Tickets are 14 for adults, 12 for seniors and students, and 10 for children (ages 4 - 12). Children under the age of three are free.
