There are scientists and there are scientists. Dr. James McDonald was one of those true scientists: an adventurer. In "Firestorm " a biography by Ann Druffel, I got a lot closer to understanding what it's like experiencing the pure joy of honest scientific thought.
We have many more scientists today, but how many of them are engaged in pure science? Dr. McDonald had a passionate love of pure science. You know what the pure kind is--the kind before ego gets involved.
Unfortunately it was through that passion that McDonald was destroyed. I'm certain McDonald's presence would be powerful today...if he hadn't committed suicide
So who was this man professional debunker the late Phil Klass tried to destroy?
Dr. James McDonald was the debunker of the bunk purveyors, people like Phil 'No Class' Klass and Dr. Donald 'Merely' Menzel.
McDonald was sharper than guys like these could ever hope to be, and they knew it. McDonald had the sharpest scientific mind --on both sides of the UFO controversy-- even to this day. He was also a great teaching professor, and we all know about that kind, too: the prof the students love, the lecturer who really teaches and fires them up, the inspiring kind of teacher and scientist. That was James McDonald. When the good Professor McDonald taught he never used notes, he had that kind of memory. From Firestorm:

Most of our scientists today seem to have more answers than curiosity,
Debunkers don't really want to talk about McDonald's good science on the possibilities of UFO reality, they'd rather take the easy way out and slander. Make that almost slander, since the professional debunkers have typically been too legal-minded to use full-on, prosecutable slander.
But it is true that McDonald was a pure scientist, something so rare it's hardly thought of these days. He was like a monk who hadn't learned the difference between the divine and the church.
Pure science was largely corrupted by government, with research grants cautiously doled out until the field of endeavor was no longer about science, but scientific funding. You had to toe the line to get the government money and the government told you what the line was.
But McDonald had a passion, transforming the value of inquiry into an almost spiritual belief that science should always be applied objectively, no matter what. Yet he was also a very practical researcher who did not spend time on those UFO cases he felt were patently absurd.
McDonald was tough on UFOs, but at the end of the day you knew the UFO reports Dr. McDonald couldn't explain, nobody else --scientist or debunker-- could explain, either.
McDonald did what only a few UFO researchers do today: he went to the witnesses.
The minute McDonald debunked the science used to explain UFO sightings he became a problem. But it was because other scientists liked and respected him that he became a major problem. He didn't know that the people he was rubbing the wrong way were radicals. These radical thinkers come in all guises but are the same type we find in fundamentalist religious groups and even inside the UFO community. These 'I'm right no matter what' people are addicted to lockstep thinking, and they can be dangerous if they go after you.
First, a telling scene from classic Christmas film "It's A Wonderful Life". Lionel Barrymore plays a sleazy bank president trying to destroy his more honest competitor, James Stewart, owner of a small town savings and loan. Stewart's a good guy who approves loans to good honest working people of meager economic means in his community. Initially the corrupt banker tries to make a deal with Stewart and they shake on it. Stewart notices his hand is wet with sweat from the banker's hand, and starts to walk out. At the moment he realizes what type of person he is dealing with, he understands that's just what the banker lives for: to break down and corrupt honest men, to feel justified in his horrible actions, and most of all, to feel superior.
Enter Phil Klass in James McDonald's life.

McDonald, after some common sense and research, had come to believe some UFOs were not explained by science. McDonald also made it his business to correct any sloppy science which was put forward to explain UFOs by other scientist.
Menzel found that out about McDonald rather quickly.
After a brief era of cordiality between Phil Klass and McDonald (and Stanton Friedman told me once that Klass was likable), the friendlier state of affairs ended when McDonald pointed out one of Phil's "plasmoid" (ball lighting) explanations for a certain UFO sighting was impossible in atmospheric physics.
Klass started to hunt McDonald like a jackal hunting prey. Klass alerted the Navy, asking the brass if they knew McDonald was spending their money to investigate UFOs, by way of suggesting McDonald was either irresponsible or corrupt.
When the Navy replied McDonald had permission to do just that and did more than anticipated on all of his other duties, Klass continued to go up the line, hollering wasted money till he started to hit pay dirt.
Don't you feel safer knowing good old Phil (No Class) Klass was watching out for us by destroying the reputations of decent people? Of course all this was nonsense. But Klass, defender of the faith and guardian of your tax dollars, continued his program of harassment.
McDonald was a kind of workaholic. Klass and Menzel could throw out their half-ass 'scientific' explanations untested, and only the brave would reply. It was simply that most scientists didn't believe and some scientist couldn't believe, but if any of them had checked they would have known. I'm sure they told themselves all kinds of reasons why they didn't pursue looking at the exlanations seriously and carefully.
But thanks largely to the ceaseless program of attack-dog methods practiced --perhaps coordinated-- by Klass and Menzel, the only honest reason serious scientists of the era could give to avoiding proposing research projects or even commenting on the whole range of science related to ufology was lack of courage.
McDonald lectured before many scientific bodies and demonstrated how their explanations were frankly wrong, no question! He embarrassed scientists in front of their peers. Menzel --long a State Department 'advisor' in Latin America-- we know now was probably connected with intelligence. But I think from what I read, to Menzel, it was also personal with McDonald.
Here's one example when McDonald demolished Klass. At a conference McDonald addressed Klass's Plasma as The Theory of Everything UFO, citing a case where a bright object followed a plane. Take a good look at this one. A UFO reported as a bright light followed a plane almost --dare I say-- intelligently. Klass does a little scientific juggling and notices how his "plasmoids" (ball lighting) can be attracted to a negative charge much like that, he said, a dusty airplane might produce; therefore, the ball lighting followed the dusty plane. According, at least to Klass's selective application of a primary physics principle.
Problem is, after McDonald gets out the slide rule and does some calculations, he uses a little science and some math to determine that the airplane would have to be moving slower than a person could pace, almost hovering, just so this 'ball lightning' could follow.
All these years, and at last! I have the answer: it was a UFO that was there, invisible, hovering, then flying next to the plane captured by a negative charge so the "Plasmaoid" must have been attracted to it. Guess that makes more sense than a walking airplane...
Dr. McDonald grew influential through his impeccable science and NICAP's reputation as an organization flourished. Because NICAP had the top UFO research team with the most clout, it became a conduit for good reports and research. And so behind the lines even more influential eyes were watching, and it seems other powerful groups had planned for this very turn of events.

MAY 4, 2010 GLOWING UFO SIGHTING CAUGHT ON CELL PHONE IN BOCA RATON, FLORIDA.
May 4, 2010 glowing UFO Sighting caught on cell phone in Boca Raton, Florida.
On May In Boca Raton, Florida noticed an object in the night sky that flew low and over the city. This UFO was seen zipping across the night over the city buildings for close to two whole hours.
The UFO seemed to transform, as seen in the photos.
The UFO Sighting caught in photos was of the oval white light began in the sky late Monday night over the Camino Real neighborhood in Boca Raton and prompted residents to call police and television stations between 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm.
One person managed to capture the UFO on his cell phone. The actual image is below.
This prompted a lot of residents to call 911 about the light in the sky. The callers were panicking and worried about this unknown object that flew low over their buildings.

MAY 4, 2010 UFO SIGHTING OF RED BALL CAPTURED IN PHOTO.
A UFO has once again been spied in Ware's. Below is the real photo taken.
Resident Ann Yates saw the "sort of orange shape in the sky" a few weeks ago while driving home "into Ware and above the A10 turn off for North Ware."
She said: "It was not the moon because it was in another area.A few month's ago from my back bedroom window I saw three lights rise up into the sky and dissapear.This was far behind the skyline of Hanbury Manor direction."
The town has experienced other 'close encounters' in recent weeks.

UFO SIGHTING PUZZLES NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR RESIDENTS, MAY 3, 2010 UFO SIGHTING, SEE PHOTO TO BELIEVE.
PHOTO: Residents of Harbour Mille, on Newfoundland's south coast, reported seeing this object fly over their community Monday night.
Residents in Harbour Mille, a tiny community on Newfoundland's south coast, wanted to know what they saw in the sky.
Darlene Stewart said she was outside taking pictures of the sunset when she saw something fly overhead.
She snapped a picture of the object in an attempt to zoom in on it to see what it was.
"Even with the camera, I couldn't make it out until I put it on the computer," she had told CBC News. "I knew then it wasn't an airplane. It was something different."
Stewart's picture shows a blurry image of what appears to be some kind of missile-like object emitting either flames or heavy smoke.
Emmy Pardy also saw the object.
"It appeared to come out of the ocean," she told CBC News. "It was like it was in the middle of the bay."
An RCMP officer had been in the community to investigate the reports.
Pardy said she'd like to know what the object was.
"It's kind of scary because you don't know if something is being set off out in the bay, [or] if someone is doing experiments," she said.
The residents plan to be outdoors again Tuesday evening to see if there is a similar sight in the sky.

Witness Statement: Tonight as I was going back into the house I looked up at the skies and spotted a ball of (what looked like) fire. It was fairly big and I first thought it was an airplane that had exploded and was going down! Then I thought it was a comet or maybe a falling star (although freakily close to our earth!).
I was kind of scared at this point so I just kept on staring at it as the light went out and it disappeared behind the clouds. But then I could see it again between the clouds, pretty much straight over my house (although still hovering over the clouds).
There were no lights on this thing and it was completely quiet. Big as well and grey/black and round/egg shaped.
It kept on going past my house and further east towards the city until I could no longer see it.
Been watching the news tonight for some info but they've said nothing. Seeing that it was so close to the city I had hoped more people had seen it as I would love to find out what it was.

Witness Statement: I was traveling from Greensplat towards Carthew with a colegue when I noticed a bright orange light which appeared to be over St Austell Bay.Coming down over Gunheath Hill I kept an eye on this light which was glowing and static. I said to my colegue what is that bright light in the sky above Gunheath China Clay Works.Initially he thought it to be an aircraft but quickly decided it could not have been as it was static, no navigation lights or engine noise. By the time we arrived at stenalees roundabout the orange orb had disapeared. I have seen these bright glowing lights before about 12 years ago also over the St Austell Bay Area whist at work, a work collegue contacted me by radio and asked me what were those bright orange lights in the sky, I said I did not know but if he told anyone I would deny it. About 10/12 lights in the sky that night (9.40pm)and they in turn appeared to just burn out and disappear. Next day I heard on the news that these lights were sighted over Wales and other places.

Witness Statement: This happened last year but i only just found this site so i thought i would write what i saw. Basically, it was night time and i was sitting in my grandma's living room when she pointed out something hovering in the sky. I looked out of the french doors towards the sky and just above her garden was a disc shaped object with alternate red and green lights just hovering there and making no sound. At one point it gave out a strong white light beam which was very long and wide, but as opposed to the beam moving around as a helicopter would do, the beam just stayed in one position. After a while it just disappeared- i dont remember seeing it fly away- i just remember it suddenly not being there any more. And i know it wasnt a helicopter because this was definetly a round, thin disc shape and i know what helicopters look like!

DARPA WEAPON THAT TRAVELS AT MACH 20 DISAPPEARS 30 SECONDS AFTER LAUNCH, BELIEVED TO INTERCEPTED BY ALIEN SPECIES TO STOP HUMAN DESTRUCTION APRIL 29, 2010.
DARPA weapon that travels at Mach 20 disappears 30 seconds after launch, believed to intercepted by alien species to stop human destruction April 29, 2010.
It is said that there is no such thing as 'coincidence.' In that case, the recent launch of the U.S. Air Force's X-37B which occurred around the same time as an even more secret mission which blasted off from across the nation hints at something more. Just what that more might be - the U.S. Air Force is not saying.
The X-37B lifted off atop an Atlas V rocket at 7:52 a.m. (EDT) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Apr. 22. Clear across the nation at Vandenberg Air Force Base the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2, (HTV 2) lifted off on top of a Minotaur Rocket - a mere 32 minutes earlier.
However, the Air Force reported that they lost contact with the craft shortly after it separated from the rocket. The test vehicle was supposed to test out several maneuvers and then fall back into the Pacific Ocean, it was not released as to whether or not the vehicle accomplished these tasks.
The X-37B can best be described as a mini space shuttle, complete with payload bay, whereas the HTV 2 is a black stealthy dart. What, if any, correlation there may have been between the two separate launches has not been
The hypersonic glider is built by Lockheed Martin under a DARPA program. It's designed to launch conventional weapons against any target in the planet in just one hour. This capability makes it a perfect substitute for Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Unlike ICBMs loaded with conventional heads, the plane can't be mistaken with a nuclear missile, so it won't make other nuclear powers to hit the red button. Maybe.
UFOlogists around the world believe that the disappearance of the DARPA ship is due to an intervention of an advanced alien civilization that wanted to stop or slow down the weapons program because it may lead the the human races destruction.

NASA SCIENTISTS LAST NIGHT UNVEILED COMPELLING EVIDENCE OF LIFE ON MARS, UK "THE SUN" NEWS.

A special mission to the Red Planet has revealed the likely presence of a form of pond scum - the building blocks of life as we know it.
NASA unveiled the results of the recent Opportunity and Spirit probes sent millions of miles through the solar system to discover signs of extraterrestrial life.
The results are so promising boffins have already planned a host of other missions to discover whether there is extraterrestrial life in the universe.
The recent missions have gathered evidence of sulphates on Mars, a strong indication there is water on the planet and therefore life.
Previous missions to Mars have concluded there is probably water on the planet.
But the NASA boffins said the recent missions have gone further than any others in proving there is life on Mars.
They were particularly excited about the discovery of a sulphate called gypsum which, it has emerged recently, is found in large quantities among fossils in the Mediterranean.
Jack Farmer, researcher at the Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona, said he was "optimistic" there was - or had been - life on Mars.
Another of the scientists Bill Schopf, researcher at the University of California in Los Angeles, added: "One, thanks to Opportunity and the rovers and orbital imaging it is clear that there are literally vast areas of Mars that are carpeted with various sorts of sulphates, including gypsum.
"Two, it turns out on earth there just hasn't been hardly any work done at all to show whether gypsum ever includes within it preserved evidence of former life.
"The age doesn't matter. We just didn't know that fossils and organic matter and things like that were well preserved within gypsum.
"So, three, it turns out that now we have made that first step we are going to find out how widespread it is in other sulphate deposits on earth.
"And those lines of evidence will then give us a way to justify going to Mars and looking at gypsum because it looks as though based on these findings that is going to turn out to be a really excellent place to find evidence of ancient life, regardless of age, if in fact it is there."
Five experts took part in last night's press conference to celebrate 50 years of astrobiology research.
Dr Steve Squyres, of Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, said the only way of being sure there is life on Mars was to bring back a sample of Mars rock.
He also said that the detection of methane in the martian atmosphere - as revealed exclusively by The Sun - raised the possibility that there was still life on Mars today.
"Methane is a molecule that should go away very quickly. We need to send a mission to find out if the source is biological.
"We also need to send a mission to return samples from Mars. That would enable scientists to find out whether Mars might ever have harboured life.
"If we are ever going to show if there was ever life on Mars, I think we're going to have to study samples back on Earth."
Almost 30 other NASA missions to discover life in space - including one to bring back rocks from Mars - have already been planned.
There are also plans to visit Jupiter's moon Europa to explore its deep underground ocean and a moon of Saturn, Enceladus, which spouted ice volcanoes.
Long-term missions will also return to Saturn's biggest moon Titan, sending a balloon flying through its atmosphere and landing a probe in its surface lakes.
Future missions would also visit comets.
NASA scientists have been searching for extraterrestrial life on other planets for some time.
Last November the space organisation launched the Kepler space telescope to look for Earth-size planets in this galaxy.
The telescope is on a three-and-a-half-year mission to find planets.
NASA has so far been able to download data - but many believe there are aliens out there.
British physicist Stephen Hawking said this week aliens might be traveling through the cosmos right now - but he warned they might have evil intentions.

I went out on my apartment balcony about 9:30 to have a cigarette.I looked up because I heard a helicopter,then I heard two planes,then I saw two glowing balls of light floating across the sky from south to north,they slowed downdown,then went northeast. I went in and got my boyfriend. He saw them too. Two people were walking and I said look.we went inside. After about 5 min I went back out to take our trash and saw another one. I got my guy. I knocked on neighbors door, they saw it too. We and them caught it on our camcorders. It was exciting. We wanted and waited to see more

The sun rises and sets every 90 minutes in low Earth orbit, making it really hard to sleep well due to the absence of normal day/night cycles. The longest time a person stayed in space is 438 days The record for a long-duration mission is held by Russian cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov, who completed a 438-day (or 14 month) tour of duty aboard the Mir space station in 1995.
ONLY THREE MEN HAVE EVER DIED IN SPACE
Of the 439 astronauts that entered space up to the end of November 2004, 11 have died in training incidents and 18 have died in in-flight accidents. Of those 18, only the crew of Soyuz 11 in 1971 actually died in space. The USA sets the space-boundary at 50 miles high while the FAI defines space as starting at a height of 100 km. Challengers last flight in 1986 never reached this height. Columbia broke apart on re-entry.
The crew of Soyuz 11, Georgi Dobrovolski, Viktor Patsayev and Vladislav Volkov, were killed after undocking from space station Salyut 1 after a three-week stay. A valve on their spacecraft had accidentally opened when the service module separated, which was only discovered when the module was opened by the recovery team. Technically the only fatalities in space(above 100 km).
ALMOST EVERY ASTRONAUT EXPERIENCES SPACE SICKNESS
In the absence of gravity, signals from the vestibulary system and the pressure receptors are wildly misleading. The effect usually leads to immediate disorientation: many astronauts suddenly feel themselves upside-down, for example, or even have difficulty in sensing the location of their own arms and legs. This disorientation is the main cause of so-calledSpace Adaptation Syndrome, which one astronaut wryly described as "a fancy term for throwing up". Half or more of all space travelers suffer from space sickness, which brings with it headaches and poor concentration as well as nausea and vomiting. Usually, though, the problems disappear within a few days as astronauts adapt.

When they return to Earth, astronauts have to re-adapt just as painfully as when they first got into space. There is one re-adaptation that can take somewhat longer to accomplish, although the consequences are more likely to be amusing than crippling. Several long-duration Russian cosmonauts have reported that months after their flight, they still occasionally let go of a cup or some other object in mid-air - and are quite disconcerted when it crashes to the floor.
COSMIC RADIATION MAKES YOU SEE BLINDING FLASHES
Gazing out of their space capsules, Apollo astronauts witnessed sights that humans had never seen before. They saw the breathtaking view of the Earths bright blue disc against the inky black of space. They saw the far side of the Moon. They also saw strange flashes of light inside their eyeballs! Since then, astronauts aboard Skylab, the Shuttle, Mir, and the International Space Station have all reported seeing these flashes. What the astronautswere experiencing is space radiation zipping through their eyes like subatomic bullets. When a "bullet" strikes the retina, it triggers a false signal that the brain interprets as a flash of light. Needless to say, this is not good for your eyes. At least 39 former astronauts have suffered some form of cataracts after flying in.
WHILE IN SPACE, YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE SPONGE BATHS TO HYGIENE YOURSELF
While stations such as Skylab and Mir have been equipped with a shower, most astronauts take sponge baths using washcloths or moistened towelettes. This reduces the amount of water consumed. I was in a decision in North London, an area called Bend over End. It was on 5:00 a.m. I was down a subdued parking area to the side of a roadblock of flats (apartments). I glanced up at the channel, 100 yards comatose, for no shut up shop court case.
I saw, in the sky, cherished very, very step by step, and entirely weakness watertight, a extraordinary waxen turf, completely as you describe all the rage. I was mesmerized, by the way it inched in a diminish line a quick stash away prematurely vanishing in amongst particular plants.
I noticed it had lights separation on it, not definite, mega irregular lights. To the same extent struck me at that moment in time was, oh. This can't be a helicopter. Helicopter blades whizz on, they're very rowdy and they go horizontally. My distinct problem is I get pleasure from a clear in my clear link as to completely where on this thing the lights were. I've never discussed this occurrence with one. I dent, oh, I won't be made-up. I dent - oh - I don't unmoving reliance in UFOs.

Until very recently, I've never systematically investigated a contemporary UFO sighting or debriefed an abductee. But the forgoing might be the subject of a subsequent presentation. To introduce the subject at hand, I should tell you that I've had three personal experiences that appear to have involved UFOs, in addition to the one that's the focus of this talk. In 1937, four years before my family moved to Hermosa Beach, when we lived in the Highland Park district of Los Angeles, I saw what I later came to think of as a "flying French horn."
Although I was supposed to be taking an afternoon nap, it was a bright day, the curtains of my nursery window were open, and I was definitely wide awake during the thirty seconds or so it took the strange craft to pass slowly-and soundlessly-across my field of vision. I never mentioned what I'd seen to my parents, and it apparently didn't cause any stir in the neighborhood. (And, no, I don't "think" I was abducted, but who knows for sure? Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to undergo hypno-regression....) Of course, this event occurred a decade before the expressions "UFO" and "Flying Saucer" came into existence, so I had no frame of reference....
... But the sighting I'm concerned with here, what has come be known as the "Battle of Los Angeles," was witnessed by over a million other people in Southern California in the wee hours of February 25, 1942, less than three months after Pearl Harbor....
