On The Record Offers Tantalizing Take On Ufos

When I was in high school, my buddies and I were huge UFO nuts. We read books like Desmond Leslie and George Adamski's "Flying Saucers Have Landed," grooved on reruns of "The Invaders," and after the Pascagoula Incident of 1973 - our sophomore year - freaked ourselves out in darkened fields under star-spangled skies. Gradually, however, I grew in reason and knowledge and, so to speak, put away childish things.

Nonetheless, I will confess to more than a minor tug of interest when Leslie Kean's "UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials go on the Record" (Three Rivers, paper, 15) landed on my desk recently. After a little agonizing - should I review it or not, is it worth my time, what are they saying about UFOs these days? - I threw caution to the winds, and so here we are.
