UFO SIGHTING IN WHITE BEAR LAKE, MINNESOTA ON NOVEMBER 2ND 2013 - A GROUP OF 6 TO 8 RED/ORANGE OBJECTS HOVERED IN FORMATION THEN DISAPPEARED
On 11/2/2013 I was driving home after hunting, shortly after dark. I turned south onto Bellaire Ave in White Bear Lake MN towards the road I live on. I noticed what kind of looked like street lights that were in a big dipper-like formation, I couldn't exactly tell where they were as I drove down this road but it looked strange to me because they weren't moving or flashing like most objects in the air. I turned left onto my street, Orchard Lane, and at this point I could see these objects in the horizon were a ways to the south and not just over Bellaire Ave. A group of 6 to 8 objects hovered in formation. At this point I saw a plane flying to the east from the general direction of the objects. I felt these may be ufo's as they reminded me of what I have seen in many documentaries. I drove 2 blocks to my home, grabbed my wife and camera and headed into my back yard to get some pictures and video. We could only see a portion of the objects and took a few pictures and a little bit of video that did not turn out very well. The pictures are ok but we didn't use a tripod so they are a little fuzzy. After 3 minutes the objects started to slowly fade to darkness, not all at the same time. We drove over to Bellaire Avenue to see if we could see anything else but everything was gone.

An interesting example of cultural assimilation, this book is a collection of UFO stories told by American Indians. The stories are collected folklore fashion from anonymous informants, and show that a sizable proportion of mainstream American and New Age lore has been incorporated into American Indian lore, indeed most of these stories clearly borrow much more from modern pop culture than from any native tradition. They also are testimony as to how quickly such incorporations can take place. The stories reflect contactee themes from the 1950s, 1980s and 1990s abduction lore, as well as motifs from media sources such as "Star Trek, The Invaders" and the "X Fil"es. A motif which seems to be more represented here than in mainstream UFO lore, is that of the ufonaut as phantom hitchhiker.
In a classic piece of religious syncretisation traditional beliefs about 'the star people' are incorporated into the UFO lore. In the traditional society the star people were just that, stars envisaged as people, in a world view which saw human beings as an integral part of a holistic cosmos imbued with personality. They are now re-visioned as people from the stars, an idea which cannot date back from before about 1970, when ideas of ancient astronauts were popularised by the likes of John Michell and Erich von Daniken. Claiming the star people as your ancestors has reversed its meaning from a sense of oneness with the whole environment to one expressing alienation.
This syncretisation succeeds on many earlier such, for example the assimilation between Catholicism and traditional lore. In some of the stories the 'star people' replace ancestors or saints as protective forces. Themes going back to the Ghost Dance can be found in the belief of one informant that the earth is ecologically doomed but that the 'star people' will come and take the American Indians to be new world where they will be able to return to their traditional way of life, an American Indian rapture.
In a sense we are seeing here another example of how folklore reflects as much the written as the oral culture, with tabloid newspapers and the like replacing the chapbooks of old. As with much lore, it is impossible to know how much the people relating these stories believe what they say, especially here when, as the author acknowledges, teasing is a major part of the culture. Some of these stories may be based on anomalistic personal experiences, but I can't help sensing that in the more dramatic teasing we are seeing more of the desire to please, or to be really cynical, the age old practise of rural people everywhere to compete as to who can tell the biggest whopper to the city folk, who lap it all up goggle eyed. - "Peter Rogerson"

How do you send a robot to space? Very, very carefully. When Robonaut 2 heads to the International Space Station this fall, it won't be strapped into a seat like its astronaut companions. Instead, it will be carefully packed inside dense foam and an aluminum frame that's specially designed to withstand the intense vibrations and gravity forces the bot will experience during its ascent into orbit.
Engineers have spent several months devising the best way to secure the humanoid, nicknamed R2, so it arrives at the ISS unharmed. The engineers concocted a plan to attach the robot to a base plate with its back and shoulders supported. They cut foam blocks to fit the robot's shape and made sure to construct the packaging so astronauts could easily remove R2 when it's ready to report for duty.
The special enclosure even has its own acronym--Sleepr, or Structural Launch Enclosure to Effectively Protect Robonaut. R2--which has a torso with a head, two arms, two humanlike hands complete with four fingers and one thumb each, and its own Twitter account--will join the STS-133 mission on the space shuttle Discovery.
Once inside the ISS' Destiny orbiting laboratory, engineers will test how the robot operates in microgravity and subject it to the station's radiation and electromagnetic interference environments. It's expected to become a permanent resident of the ISS, possibly working side-by-side with astronauts in the future.
The second-generation robot, produced from a 3-year-old joint venture between NASA and General Motors, is described as more dexterous than its predecessor and able to handle tools and interfaces more than four times faster. Engineers on the ground in Houston will man the robot remotely via laptop.
At about 150kg, R2 is too heavy to be strapped into an empty seat and instead will be transported inside the Permanent Multipurpose Module in space shuttle Discovery's payload bay. By spaceflight standards, NASA says, R2 is possibly the heaviest payload to be taken into space inside a cargo module. Once inside Sleepr, it weighs more than 227kg. Yes, cranes will be involved.
Interestingly, NASA's analysis has shown that R2 will best tolerate the unique forces of launch if it's oriented in the same direction as the astronauts--facing toward the nose of the shuttle with the back taking all the weight.
It'll be a big trip for R2, and it's getting plenty of rest in preparation. "I have my protective cover on for the night," the robot tweeted Thursday afternoon, pointing to a picture of itself wrapped in robot Saran Wrap. "What a busy day! Glad I'm getting a break tonight."

This post explores the 5 June 1964 British Pathe Film of a UFO taken at Woomera, South Australia. This case has often been regarded as a classic and is said to have been linked to the famous English, Solway "spaceman" photograph taken on 23 May 1964. It is now solved.
INTRODUCTION:
Over the years I have compiled a number of specialised Australian case catalogues of UFO reports. One of these is a "Catalogue of Australian Photographic UFO reports."
I stopped compiling this particular catalogue in 2005, when digital photography, and sophisticated software packages made it very easy to produce hoax images. In addition, with the number of digital images being produced and available on the net, I just couldn't keep up with all the claimed images, even just for Australia.
One of the cases which is in the catalogue, has the following entry:
"5 June 1964 Woomera, South Australia
This photograph was taken at the launching of a Blue Streak rocket, and shows an oval blob of light near the rocket. A black and white print in the FSR source was apparently from a colour movie."
The primary source was the English Flying Saucer Review Sep/Oct 1964 page 4, which carried one black and white photograph.
By 2003, when the Disclosure Australia Project commenced, I hadn't come across any further information.
DISCLOSURE AUSTRALIA PROJECT:
The Disclosure Australia Project took a five year time frame to locate and document the Australian Government's UFO file holdings (see http://disclosureaustralia.freewebpages.org)
One set of possibly relevant files on which detail about the 5 June 1964 sighting may have been found, was file series 580/1/1. This was the RAAF's master set of UFO reports. Part four of this series covered the time frame January 1963 to 4 December 1965. An examination of this file revealed that there were no recorded UFO reports for the entire month of June 1964.
Over the years the Project uncovered about 150 UFO files related to UFO research, and examined the majority of these.
One discovered file was D174/SA5281 held by the Federal Government's Department of Supply. This Department was responsible for the operation of the Joint United-Kingdom -Australia Weapons Research Project which operated the Woomera rocket range. As the 5 June 1964 photo/movie involved the launch of a Blue Streak rocker from Woomera, this was a promising lead. However, file D174/SA5281 turned out only to cover the period 1952-1955.
A search was therefore conducted for other Department of Supply files, or other files related to Woomera. A second file was located, with the date range being 1952-1968, therefore covering the year 1964. It was hoped that this file, D250/56/483 might assist. It was titled "Reports on unidentified aircraft, strange occurrences etc" and was held by the Weapons Research area of the Department of Supply. Unfortunately, despite and extensive examination there was nothing on this file relating to the 5 June 1961 photo/movie.
We came across no other files which covered Woomera in 1964. However, we did locate, on the National Archives of Australia's website, a reference to a series D897, Unknown objects - DSTO WRE (A-K 1948-1957) - Australian Archives. The series notes stated that the "Series contains approximately 4800 colour and black and white slides. Controlling records for this series (D896) indicates there are some 6200 slides registered between 1947 and 1961. The whereabouts of the missing 1400 slides is not known...These are slides of Skylark launches, Jindivik trials, Blue Streak movements and some unidentified objects..." This then was another promising lead.
The Project located a register for these slides in the Adelaide office of the National Archives of Australia. Archives staff produced two bound volumes which contained dates, reference numbers and details of the photographs. A close examination of these details of hundreds of pictures, revealed none of a Blue Streak launch for 5 June 1964. However, later, Disclosure Australia Project staffer Dominic McNamara located a still photograph at the Adelaide office which paralleled the one from the FSR. This then, was the sum total of Disclosure Australia staff knowledge which could be added to the available information. If a sighting report of the 5 June 1964 UFO had been made, we could find no record of it.
THE SOLWAY FIRTH PHOTOGRAPH:
The 5 June 1964 Woomera photo/movie has been related by some researchers to the famous 23 May 1964 English Solway Firth photograph. What was the connection?
Jim Templeton took three pictures of his daughter. The middle picture showed what looked like a "spaceman" behind his daughter's head.
"A Blue Streak launch at the Woomera test range, using Cumbrian-built weaponry, had been aborted because of two large men seen on the firing range. Technicians at the time did not know about Templeton's sighting until it appeared on the front page of an Australian newspaper,and they said that the figure in Cumbria looked the same as the ones they had seen on the monitor at Woomera. Templeton told the BBC that technicians considered the two figures to be 'exactly the same type of man: same dress,same figure, same size as in the original photograph.'" So, the connection is said to be, on an unknown date, people at Woomera involved in a Blue Streak rocket launch saw two figures the same as the figure in the 23 May 1964 Solway photograph. Do we have a date for the Blue Streak launch?
"Not long afterwards the editor of the Cumberland News newspaper contacted Jim and asked if he could borrow the negative to send a copy out to Australia. Apparently the photograph had appeared in the press there and staff working at the Woomera test range area in Southern Australia had seen it. So, the date of the aborted Blue Streak launch, according to this source was 24 May 1964, and not 5 June 1964.
SOME BACKGROUND:
ELDO - the European Launcher Development Organisation - was established to develop a satellite launcher for Europe. Tests were based in Woomera.The cancelled British "Blue Streak" ICBM became the first stage of the launcher. The second stage was built by the french and the third stage by Germany.The first launch was on 5 June 1964, and involved the first stage only.

A LINK?
Thus, there would appear to be no links between the 23 May 1964 Solway photograph and the 5 June 1964 UFO photo/movie. The 5 June 1964 photo/movie stands alone.
1996 AND 2010
I was unaware that English ufologist Jenny Randles in a 1996 TV documentary "Tales of the paranormal" reported on the 5 June 1964 footage, but found the relevant film canister missing from the British National Archives. An English MP, John Fraser, saw the documentary and launched an inquiry into the incident and the missing footage.
In 2010, David Clarke, senior lecturer in Journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, examined newly released files from the British Minstry of Defence, and found material related to the 5 June 1964 photo/movie. "When they actually looked at the papers back in 1964, British Pathe Film, who were actually there at the rocket launch and made the film, they wrote into the MOD and said, 'yeh there was soemthing on the film but it's quite clear to us looking at it that it's an internal camera fault, like a reflection in the lens.' The missing canister of filmed 'evidence' had been stored at the Imperial War Museum instead of the National Archived." FILM FOUND ON THE NET!
That seemed to be the end of the story, but as I prepared this post,on a whim, I searched the net using the terms "british pathe blue streak 1964." This took me to the website of British Pathe Film and the very movie which is the subject of the post -the 5 June 1964 UFO movie!
The video clip on the site is titled "Woomera, Blue Streak - Two, One, Zero" and is listed as from canister 64/48. The issue date was 11 June 1964, and since the only Blue Streak launch had taken place on 5 June 1964 it must be the movie of the UFO.
Indeed, as I ran the video,( source: http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=43301) it clearly was. There, on the left hand side of the rocket is a classic internal lens reflection.
Case solved.
CONCLUSION:
Sometimes, it takes an aweful long time to get to the actual facts behind a UFO story. In this instance, the fact that the film canister in question was missing in 1996 added an air of mystery. However, research has now lead to a copy of the original film, and the UFO in question is clearly a classic internal lens flare, and the case can therefore be removed from the "UFO" category.

People have posted other clips of Jerusalem previously, and all were generally dismissed as man-made. This sighting has left UFOlogists baffled because this one was filmed from numerous perspectives. In fact, judging from the buzz in the UFO this sighting and these videos are among the most important sightings in recent years.
IN FACT, SOME UFO-HEADS THINK THESE WIDELY VIEWED VIDEOS are definitive proof that our cousins have returned for a visit. Some scholars and observers of a more religious bent say that the UFO is the Hebrew god "Elohim".

A FORMER MINISTRY OF DEFENSE UFO INVESTIGATOR, Nick Pope, says "If these are real, they are some of the most incredible videos ever shot. If they are not, then this is a very well-planned and coordinated hoax designed to eliminate elements of doubt." Pope says "the way it shoots up into the sky suggests it is unmanned, because no living thing could survive those kinds of G-forces."

Asking scientists if they believe we're being visited by aliens in little flying saucers is likely to get you a few funny looks. Yet there are a number of scientists interested in the question "Do aliens exist?". The key point here, is that the two questions are completely different.
Many scientists believe there is life elsewhere in the universe. Some even believe it's likely to exist on other places within our solar system, such as on Jupiter's moon Europa. That's not to say they believe in UFO's - this life could be as simple as bacteria.

Scientists have been searching of evidence of intelligent life on other worlds for more than a century - a search known as SETI. The most famous aspect of this search is probably SETI@home, which allows people to download an application onto their home computers, to analyse data from the Arecibo radio telescope (left). The program has been running for more than a decade (since 1999) and has attracted more than 5 million participants. They are searching for a radio signal that might be coming from an intelligent species, elsewhere in our galaxy - the Milky Way.
But is there likely to be another civilisation out there for us to detect?
The answer to this question is summed up nicely by the famous Drake Equation. Don't worry, I'm not about to launch into complex mathematics. This equation describes the number of civilisations in a galaxy which are able to communicate. It has seven terms, which are multiplied together to give us the answer. So all we have to do, is work out:
* the average rate at which new stars are being created within the galaxy
* the percentage of those stars that have planets
* the average number of planets capable of supporting life around each star that has planets
* the percentage of planets capable of supporting life, on which life develops
* the chance that life developing on a planet leads to intelligent life
* the percentage of civilisations that transmit radio waves into space
* the number of years civilisations capable of transmitting continue to do so
You've probably guessed, some of these terms are extremely difficult to work out. So... how close are we to the answer? Not very. We have estimates for them (you can find details of estimates for each term on Wikipedia, if you're interested), but only have "good" accuracy on the first one, and are working hard on the next two. The last four are essentially just reasoned guesses. So depending on how generous or mean you want to be with the values, we could be in a galaxy literally teeming with millions of intelligent communicating civilisations - or all alone in the Universe.

The search for life on Mars has been going on for quite some time, but has leaned more towards the search for evidence of past life rather than existing life, as we learned more about the conditions on the planet. Robotic missions such as the NASA Curiosity Rover, which we had a wonderful guest post about back in August, are busy exploring the surface of Mars right now, and one of the things they're tasked with is proving whether or not Mars was ever capable of supporting life.
In ten years time, Europe will launch the Jupiter Icy moons Explorer - JUICE (right), as part of ESA's Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program. After an 8-year journey to the Jupiter system, it will study the moons of this giant planet. Three of those moons; Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, are suspected of having giant water oceans - not on the surface, but deep down inside. And where there's liquid water, scientists will be looking for signs of life. But first we have to find out whether or not these underground oceans exist at all.
JUICE will also seek to help answer the questions "what are the conditions for planet formation?", and "how does the Solar System work?" - two of the biggest questions in planetary science.
Even other stars are being looked at eagerly, as we discover more and more "exoplanets" in what is known as the "Goldilocks zone". Planets which are too close to their parent star are likely to be too hot to sustain life, while planets which are too far away are probably too cold. But just in the middle is a zone which is "just right", and astrobiologists are looking keenly for planets which fall into this category. But life is a complex thing, and we've found life in all sorts of strange and unexpected places right here on Earth - often places we believed life was impossible. So how large this habitable zone actually is, also remains an open question :)
SHORT UFO FACT: [For many years Richard Hoagland claimed that the US Government as well as NASA is covering up the alleged '"Face of Mars"' in the Cydonia region of Mars. Hoagland also claims that NASA has video taped UFOs filmed during shuttle missions. And Richard Hoagland says that NASA has more evidence of a civilisation on the surface of Mars except the picture of the "FACE". Pictures of pyramids and a fortress are some of them.]

JUNE 24, 2013 - UNITED STATES - Margaux Huckabay said her brother spotted the legendary chupacabra on Bitters.

"At first he thought it was a coyote," said Huckabay. "It definitely looks weird."
Her brother quickly grabbed his phone and started recording the animal as it tried to scurry away it glanced back at the camera.
"It has a really long nose and a really long tail," Huckabay said.

She couldn't believe it and still wonders if it was really the goat blood sucker everyone talks about.
"I actually Google Imaged 'chupacabra' and it looks just like the other images. It's kinda freaky," she said.
After spotting it, the next night Huckabay and her brother drove back to the area but it was nowhere to be seen. They did, however, post it on Facebook and people are chiming in with their thoughts.
"People were saying its probably a coyote with mange but then someone wrote back that doesn't look like a coyote. It has a long tail," she said.

Either way, whatever it was, it may still be lurking around the city.

The February 25th, 2013 NEW YORKER has a review of Adam Phillip's latest book, MISSING OUT: IN PRAISE OF THE UNLIVED LIFE.
THE NEW YORKER'S Joan Acocella offered the review ["This is Your Life", Page 77 ff.]
I enjoyed the review because Mr. Phillips is a psychoanalyst and defender of Freud.
In the review, a favorable one (while Amazon customer reviews were a mixed bag), Ms. Acocella writes that Mr. "Phillips addresses most feelingly... our wish to be understood."
"We need understanding sometimes, not every time. If we insist on getting it all the time... "how could we ever be anything other than permanently enraged.?"
What does this have to do with UFOs? Nothing.
But it does have to do with some UFO buffs who frequent UFO blogs, forums, and web-sites. hoping to impart their assumed knowledge but who, in the absence of understanding -- because they've been obscure, arcane, or just ignorant -- get irate or worse.
The UFO community is rife with non-understanding, and the ruffians who get angry when their proffered expertise is ignored by others.
Many of you saw that here recently.
And one can find it readily at Kevin Randle's blog, UFO UpDates and other popular UFO sites on the internet.
I suggest that those who lurk and visit this blog but are incensed that they've been given short shrift because I, and others, think their thoughts stink, get their hands on the book or, at least, THE NEW YORKER review.
That may go a slight way toward cleansing UFO commentary of the animus that is almost ubiquitous.

Finally we learned that the "alien baby" found by a Mexican farmer, which allegedly had appeared in a trap, it was a squirrel monkey, according to information published in Mexico.
The "Alcione" website is uncovering the mystery, a team headed by Captain Alejandro Franz, a researcher of the UFO phenomenon and airplane pilot.
The researcher found that the remains were the body of a squirrel monkey (saimiri sciureus), which is a normal species in tropical forests of Central and South America.
Franz Alexander is a renowned researcher of the UFO phenomenon internationally, who has demystified several alleged cases of sightings and flying animals, which have only resulted in confusion of the witnesses.
Alcione website shows that the comparative analysis of the head of the alleged "alien" and the skull of a squirrel monkey throws that both are virtually identical.

Over at Tim Binnall's website "Binnall of America" I interview Mack Maloney, author of the new book "UFOs in Wartime". In the book Mack looks at UFO cases not just since Kenneth Arnold's famous June 24, 1947, sighting of nine "flying disks" in formation near Mount Rainie, but also sightings of mysterious aerial objects going back to the time of Christopher Columbus and even as far back as Alexandra The Great. MACK MALONEY: What did Columbus see? It seems like he saw what would be normally described as a UFO a bright light, acting strangely in the sky, something that is not a star or the moon, or a meteor falling to earth. Whatever those things are, that's what Columbus saw. As for Kenneth Arnold's sighting being given too much attention, I agree that it has, at least in the context that these unidentified flying objects have been around for centuries. They didn't suddenly appear that day Kenneth Arnold saw them. What happened that day was the American press finally woke up to the story and branded them in this case, as flying saucers.

In the first half of the program, George Knapp was joined by Dr. John Alexander, who discussed his recent trips to West Africa and Mongolia where he met shamans and observed voodoo rituals. He described voodoo more as a "way of life," rather than an organized religion, in these regions of the world. To that end, he noted that practitioners seek advice from voodoo priests on a variety of issues including medical insights as well as general life counseling. Alexander dismissed the Western characterization of the religion as sinister and argued that "the vast majority of the voodoo ceremonies are based on positive outcomes for the community."
Over the course of his appearance, Alexander detailed a number of voodoo rituals that he witnessed during his expedition, such as a fire ceremony which he described as amazing. Unlike the simple practice of briskly walking across red hot coals, he said, this ceremony featured participants who performed stunning feats like remaining unscathed while holding flaming logs as well as biting pieces of burning wood and safely keeping the fiery remnant in their mouth for over a minute. According to Alexander, knowledge of voodoo wisdom, such as how to perform these practices, is a closely guarded secret. The secrecy is so strict, he said, that while the head voodoo priest may be known to his village, the identities of his students remains a mystery until the priest reveals his successor shortly before his death.
In the latter half, author Bill Birnes talked about his role on the defunct TV series UFO Hunters and what it's like to investigate the compelling and sometimes chilling evidence of UFO phenomena. He explained that the program differed from previous paranormal television shows because it aimed to examine all the possible explanations for key UFO events rather than simply highlighting a case and eschewing an investigation. Birnes recalled various 'behind the scenes' machinations which occurred during the creation of the program, including being told that "UFOs don't sell" by a TV executive and a legal battle over the name "UFO Hunters," which briefly saw two competing shows using the same title.
"If you think you're coming into a community and people are welcoming you with open arms, because you are investigating UFOs, sometimes it's exactly the opposite," he said about the challenges of producing UFO Hunters. He illustrated this point by noting difficulties they encountered while making the Maury Island episode of the show. In the early planning stages, Birnes said, they were rebuffed by angry investigators who closely guarded their own research and accused the program of trying to usurp their work. Additionally, during the on location taping the show, an irate resident of the area approached them, while wielding a handgun, and insisted that they leave the area. Although the crew convinced the man that they had the proper paperwork to film and he departed, Birnes recalled, "next thing you know, we're hearing gunshots and somebody says, 'this guy's shooting at us!'"

Is there an "Alien Base" on the Moon?
More and more people are coming forward with stories that might prove this is true. Rumors say that there is an "Alien Moon Base" on the far side of the moon, the side we never see from Earth.
Did you ever wonder why the Moon landings stopped and why we have not tried to build a Moon Base?
It does seem like a better and easier idea than a floating space station with no access to any raw materials or supplies.

In 1979, MAURICE CHATELAIN, former chief of "NASA Communications Systems" confirmed that Armstrong had indeed reported seeing two UFOs on the rim of a crater. "The encounter was common knowledge in NASA," he revealed, "but nobody has talked about it until now."Soviet scientists were allegedly the first to confirm the incident. "According to our information, the encounter was reported immediately after the landing of the module," said Dr. Vladimir Azhazha, a physicist and Professor of Mathematics at Moscow University.
"Neil Armstrong relayed the message to Mission Control that two large, mysterious objects were watching them after having landed near the moon module. But his message was never heard by the public-because NASA censored it. "According to another Soviet scientist, Dr. ALEKSANDR KAZANTSEV, Buzz Aldrin took color movie film of the UFOs from inside the module, and continued filming them after he and Armstrong went outside.
Dr. Azhazha claims that the UFOs departed minutes after the astronauts came out on to the lunar surface.
Maurice Chatelain also confirmed that Apollo 11's radio transmissions were interrupted on several occasions in order to hide the news from the public. Before dismissing Chatelain's sensational claims, it is worth noting his impressive background in the aerospace industry and space program.
His first job after moving from France was as an electronics engineer with "Convair", specializing in telecommunications, telemetry, and radar. In 1959 he was in charge of an electromagnetic research group, developing new radar and telecommunications systems for Ryan. One of his eleven patents was an "automatic flights to the Moon".
Later, at "North American Aviation", Chatelain was offered the job of designing and building the Apollo communications and data-processing systems.
CHATELAIN claims that, "all Apollo and Gemini flights were followed, both at a distance and sometimes also quite closely, by space vehicles of extraterrestrial origin-flying saucers, or UFOs, if you want to call them by that name. Every time it occurred, the astronauts informed Mission Control, who then ordered absolute silence." He goes on to say:"I think that Walter Schirra aboard Mercury 8 was the first of the astronauts to use the code name" 'Santa Claus'" to indicate the presence of flying saucers next to space capsules. However, his announcements were barely noticed by the general public.
It was a little different when James Lovell on board the Apollo 8 command module came out from behind the moon and said for everybody to hear:'PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS.'Even though this happened on Christmas Day 1968, many people sensed a hidden meaning in those words."

NASA may well be a "civilian agency", but many of its programs are funded by the defense budget and most of the astronauts are subject to "military security regulations."
Apart from the fact that the National Security Agency screens all films and probably radio communications as well. We have the statements by Otto Binder, Dr. Garry Henderson and Maurice Chatelain that the astronauts were under strict orders not to discuss their sightings.
And GORDON COOPER has testified to a United Nations committee that one of the astronauts actually witnessed a UFO on the ground.

I was just admiring the beautiful fool moon night and said to myself let me take picture of it with my phone. So I took several photos and to my surprise later on realized what was flying by the moon so I took some more shots hoping to catch what I was experiencing in some way. It has so far happened twice. Zaporozhye, UkraineDate: 1998 Time: variousA young Tatar-Muslim woman named Aihsa reported entering into a series of contacts with aliens from an extraterrestrial civilization from the Big Bear constellation (Ursa Major). At one time a man-like humanoid entity entered her bedroom and communicated with the witness via telepathy. The alien was tall, about 1.8m to 1.9m in height, and was dressed in a dark overall, his face was tanned, and he had large slanted eyes, a long straight nose and a slightly protruding chin. His hand had five long narrow fingers. The alien said that his name was "IMA" and spoke about numerous different subjects: God, evil, and about the 5 laws of the Universe. Sometimes he spoke in Russian and at times bright, living images were transmitted directly into her mind like a cinema. She always saw "IMA" in front of her as if it were a holographic image, she was told: "What you see before your eyes, it's not entirely me." He added, "Information transmitted to you can be so exact to a degree that you will be able to almost touch it." At one point they argued as to the nature of the aliens, Aisha stated that they were neither Gods nor demons and she then received the following answer, "Aisha we are are not Gods or demons. We are not from some unnaturally developed civilization. We are the same people as you are, but based on a different genetic base. So that qualitatively makes us people, men, but not in principle. We are not spirits we belong to the SAINA race". The aliens told Aisha that they were inhabitants of a huge star system called "O-NAVAIL". Their star was located in the Great Bear Constellation. They call their star system IR-SHIIR. Their planet is called NIASU which literally means, "The dwelling place". And the center of their entire system (which is a union of 5 different planetary systems in different constellations) is a spiritual entity called TRON. TRON is the collective mind of all the representatives of the system. Aisha later learned that IMA was subordinated to his alien "boss" which is a female by the name of KILAMANS. IMA was supposed to take her place in this difficult system (Earth?) and have a career here. Aisha made an astral journey to the alien planet NIASU which she found quite interesting. Everything in the planet was surrounded by stern solemnity, tranquility and as seemed to her, aristocratism. The light there was dim (cloud cover?) but the ultraviolet rays were powerful like in the hottest deserts on Earth. Their cities had many trees and plants, and they built their homes in the immediate vicinity of the water reservoirs, which was cooler than the rest of the planet. At one point Aisha asked IMA if they had created the Earth and IMA answered, "We didn't create anything, everything is the will of the Universe, but we have kept your planet under control since the moment of its birth". IMA also added that temporarily they had established a base in the area of the Kerch Peninsula (probably under the Sea of Azov). They are "the 5th unit of a galactic star fleet". IMA is the captain of a flagship named "The floating Butterfly". They are engaged in guarding and studying the Universe and provide communications within. For some time now they have had responsibility over the human civilization, which was imposed to them as "curators" of Earth. On another occasion Aisha was contacted by an alien named LOESU which she considered to be the ideal of inner beauty and perfection. He was tall, dark skinned, with huge slanted eyes, no hair (his head was covered with something resembling a hood) a long nose, wide mouth and broad lips. He had very long and thin fingers. LOESU also had a very muscular chest, which Aisha saw since he wore something resembling a partially opened shirt. When asked by local journalists why she had been chosen for contact, Aisha answered that the aliens did not have the right to communicate with any human. They have to follow definite criteria to choose the person they were to contact. The "Contactee" must have the abilities that can play the role in expanding humanity's mind. The person must have the aptitude for comprehending the existence of other civilizations and to promote others to realize the fact. They told her that they would be transmitting information to her and that she "should write it down or draw it". The aliens told her that they had been preparing her for the final contact and had decided that she met all the requirements they insisted upon. They only asked her to pass the information on to others since they wanted to study their reaction. They also told Aisha that this was needed more by humans than by them, in fact they pointed out that "human souls were the smallest particles of the whole universal soul." That humans had lost their communication with space and must somehow restore it. At one time IMA told Aisha that evil exists only in the mind and that we had the ability to throw it out with our thoughts. That meant that humans must change their attitudes. Only by understanding their role in the Universe can humans re-establish their connection with the Creator. The Creator will then help humans cleanse themselves from evil. But only the humans had the choice to destroy or save themselves. None of the alien races were able to interfere in this. According to IMA the five basic laws of the Universe were: 1. In the 1950s Soviet espionage was rampant as the Russians had infiltrated every aspect of American society from the White House to the State Department to the military and even the old OSS.
The Russian intelligence agencies battled it out with their western counterparts as the red scare of the 1950s set in to the American mindset. One very intriguing aspect of this spy war is that even though the FBI knew who many of these Soviet agents were, they could not be prosecuted because of how they were unmasked. You see, the Army Security Agency (predecessor to the NSA) was actively breaking the Soviet code under a top secret program knows as the Venona Project. The project decryptions helped the FBI track down and break up a number of Soviet espionage rings, but some of these spies avoided prosecution because the incriminating evidence collected was too classified to reveal in a court of law. It was better to let these spies walk away free then to risk compromising the existence of the Venona Project.
How does this apply to Ufology? Well let's consider the following hypothetical scenario: A foreign intelligence agency approaches a prominent UFO researcher and promises to finance their research in exchange for any information found, knowing that some of the data provided may actually relate to new exotic American military aircraft. Now let's say that American Counter-Intelligence is not very happy and would really like to put this prominent UFO researcher in the same jail cell as Gary McKinnon for compromising national security. How could they possibly prosecute in a court of law without revealing their interest in the UFO researcher and Ufology in general? Such is the dilemna of the intelligence agencies who use the UFO phenomenon for their own purposes. Depending on which end of the information game your side plays on, you either reap the reward or get bit in the ass. Realizing that prosecution is not a possibility, the losing player will probably opt for using the researcher as a conduit for disinformation instead, effectively making the researcher an unwitting pawn on a chess board of rival intelligence agencies.
Silly really, but the game has been played too long and the intelligence agencies are in too deep to stop now. So the game continues with each successive move of a game piece more elaborate than the previous. However there is no check mate in this game, because it has been played for more than 60 years with no winner, although it was put on hold when cold war tensions eased. With the resurgence of tense relations between Russia and the United States, the game is back in play, and Ufology is once again faced with being manipulated as pawns in a game that is not of their choosing. While terrestrial hands exchange game pieces, the phenomenon itself flies overhead untouched and out of reach.
