Five years ago (2010) in the southern Adirondacks of NY, in the Adirondack Park, to the amazement of many - America's largest wilderness Park - my wife and I saw what can only be described as a hyena chasing several deer across the road. The animal literally stopped dead in front of the car staring back at us for 10 seconds before it moved off. I have been in the woods my whole life, raised with a gun since childhood, and spent my summers on Lake Champlain. I have hunted, fished, instructed archery and rifle range, hiked, coon hunted at night, owned horses and ridden horseback through the wilderness, and presently live with all kinds of wildlife on my lakefront-creekside property... well, I thought I'd seen it all. BUT... I have no idea what this was, other than to say it was a hyena.
It was very large; 150-175lbs, long bushy tail, brindle, wirey, spotted, brown, black and gray coat, with a powerful predator build, thick lower jaw, rounded, diamond shaped, triangular head with rounded ears sitting high on the head, and what appeared to be a mane running down the back originating on the neck. Its hind legs were noticeably shorter than the front and much thicker and more powerfully muscled than the front - so that the animal sloped down in the powerful rear. I have seen countless Hyena on Discovery, in National Geographic and Wild Kingdom as a kid, and there is no other option then this strongly resembled a Spotted Hyena.
I immediately went home and searched it. Amazingly, it is said the 'Mountain Hyena' once roamed the Adirondacks/Appalachians... well, I have news...at least one still does. My wife and I - with me at the time - actually called NY EnCon at Ray Brook when we got home and... got laughed at... even receiving an errant email back ridiculing my report which was accidently sent to me instead of an EnCon co-worker. This really made me mad as I had made friends with my local EnCon officer who liked to use my property to catch poachers. Although we do have an animal park at the end of the lake, when I called, they assured me they have never had any Spotted Hyena.
It was only shortly after I saw the MonsterQuest episode describing a similar animal in Maine, while the Shunka Warak'in was well known to the Iroquois as the "Dog Killer," the supposed Shunka Warak'in famous mount seems far too small and pig-like to be what I saw. It legs are far too scrawny and it seems far less canine than what we saw... also possessing a longer straight coat and thinner snout.
Then a few days later, we saw it again doing the same thing. There is no doubt, this was not a Coyote, a Wolf hybrid or a Coydog... this WAS a Hyena. My property has a creek, cree kmouth and lakefront, with 4 fish spawns, plenty of deer, coyote, Red and Gray Fox, Fisher, Eagles, Turkeys, ducks, Blue Heron, owls, Osprey, geese, ducks, Turkey Vultures, and even the occasional Black Bear and this fall a yearling Moose, I've seen it all; especially riding horseback. You name it, I've seen it and can identify it... but have never seen anything like this. As close as I can come is the Spotted Hyena.
I have a very high IQ and have worked for two Emmy winners... but amazingly, this is the second "cryptid" animal I have seen in my life, but when you do, you just never forget it, suddenly you realize the world is far more amazing than many ever know. Just imagine what is lurking out there untouched expanses of Canada and Alaska, where few, if any, have ever ventured. BTW, in the spirit of honest disclosure, I do live in what many believe to be a UFO hotspot, and I have two UFO photos taken over my home that have gone around top Ufology sites. In 2009, I was featured on the cover of world famous UFO Magazine... but none of it changes what I, or many of my neighbors, have seen or experienced.

I've always been interested in the work of Carl Jung (1875-1961), in part because Jung was strangely interested in UFOs. It was part of his work with archetypes and the collective unconscious. He even wrote a book called "Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen In The Skies." Jung saw the classic circular "flying saucer" as a modern manifestation of the mandala, the sacred circle of Hinduism and Buddhism, and a representation of wholeness and unity. When someone had an encounter with a UFO, Jung thought, he or she was really having an encounter with his or her own desire to be "whole." I can buy that. The crash was the result of a collision between a small, general aviation airplane that had taken off from El Paso, Texas, enroute to Mexico City, and a UFO that was tracked by radar into American airspace and then into Mexico.The story was first reported by Len Stringfield in his "UFO Crash/Retrievals: Search for Proof in a Hall of Mirrors, Status Report VII" published in February 1994. His source was Elaine Douglass, a UFO researcher active with Operation Right to Know, who received her copy of the report from JS, who is never identified, and who was apparently a member of something called the "Deneb Team." This document was entitled, Research Findings on the Chihuahua Disk Crash and was dated March 23, 1992.Stringfield wasn't too happy with the data and wrote, "Despite the risk of publishing a bunch of baloney, the full text of the report is reproduced herewith, hoping the incident can be verified or exposed as mis-or-disinformation." That debris, along with soil samples, was analyzed by an independent laboratory and while not all elements could be identified, that does not lead to the conclusion that there was something alien in it.They interviewed a man who was retired California police officer who told of seeing a small, strange creature when he visited his grandmother in the Coyame area in 1974 when he was 13. The creature he described was similar to that seen much later in Varginha, Brazil.But the creature can't be tied to the UFO crash simply because the officer said that when he told his grandmother about it, she said she had seen the same thing. Her sightings preceded the UFO crash and she had said nothing to the family about it earlier because she didn't think they would believe her. The witnesses, interviewed so long after the event remember seeing something that might have fallen in 1974. They might have seen the plane crash. Its an amazing story but one that cries out for more data. En primer lugar vamos a valorar la hora a la que se tomaron las im'agenes en las proximidades del lugar donde las adolescentes se encontraron con aquel curioso ser. Eran la 01:00 a.m. del 20 de Enero de 1996. En este v'ideo se puede dar la confusi'on de que el autor identificase el 21 de enero con el 20 de enero al ser un avistamiento nocturno a caballo entre un dia y otro. Sea como fuere, se abrir'ian dos hip'otesis: la primera ser'ia que aquellos objetos estaban realizando evoluciones a unos pocos metros de la superficie de la poblaci'on de varginha por alg'un tipo de incidente que podr'ia haber salido mal y que habr'ia dado como resultado el abandono de los seres en medio de la poblaci'on. 2. El video desenfoca la imagen, y aun por el pixelado se aprecia que comienza una maniobra de descenso. El objeto estaba situado a media altura y comienza a bajar. No se aprecian helic'opteros en la escena, ni aviones. No se aprecia en el objeto ningun tipo de h'elices o moldura aerodin'amica con forma de alas. Es un cuerpo ovalado con luminosidad propia pero con una aparente superficie met'alica que permite tambi'en reflejar las luces de abajo.
En la maniobra de descenso, se aprecia como el objeto se aleja y por eso disminuye su tama~no. La bajada es espectacular, casi en picado, pero como el objeto se hayaba flotando en el aire, parece que realiza la acci'on con total control de la situaci'on.

while I was in my backyard recording the moon with my telescope and my laptop on AUG 17 th 13 I noticed two quick flashes ( I though I saw it, It was so fast) and the next day when I review it, this is what I saw: a light that seems to stop and go, stop and go and you can see the streak behind it. the original video is about 20-25 min long. the segment on you tube is 50 sec. long and the light appears around 24 sec.
