UFO non-believers (such as the Air Force) long ago concluded that the RB-47 crew had tracked an airliner.
This documentary treats it as if it's unsolved and very mysterious. The film features the ubiquitous Stanton Friedman (who's cheerfully appeared in every UFO documentary made since the Boer War) along with UFO "expert" Nick Pope and several other equally earnest UFO proponents.

The date for the Gulf Breeze sightings is a little later than I usually comment on, (I have, as my arbitrary cut off date, 1980) but I think the events at Gulf Breeze are interesting enough that it's worth revisiting.

Two decades ago, the area around the Florida Panhandle town of Gulf Breeze was the center of sightings of unidentified flying objects, byline Dusty Ricketts.
County Commissioner John Broxson saw something in Gulf Breeze in 1987:
Something bright was hovering above his home, a parade of lights of different colors and intensity. He quickly had his wife, Christina, and their friends come out to see it for themselves. No one knew what they were watching.
The unidentified flying object hovered for several moments before quickly flying straight until it was out of sight.
As the article points out, Ed Walters wasn't the only witness to the UFO sightings. Hundreds of witnesses saw these things.
Between 1987 and the end of 1993, when most of the sightings ended, Ware said hundreds of people reported seeing UFOs in Gulf Breeze. Walters and others took more than 125 photographs of supposed UFOs just between Nov. 11, 1987, and May 1, 1988, Ware said.
The distraction of "proving" or debunking Walters, from his character to the model of a flying saucer found in his home, doesn't address the real issues surrounding the Gulf Breeze events.
Walters described weird beeping, electronic type noises coming from one of the robotic type "aliens" he saw. It reminds me of older cases in many ways; of humanoids and robotic beings, of Mothman type electronic sounds. In other weird events, like some Hairy Biped encounters, strange beeping or electronic sounds occur.
As already mentioned; hundreds of witnesses observed UFOs in the area at the time.
Many of the images Walters took of the UFOs are similar to the clunky flying saucers from the 1950s, like Adamski's images.

The paper model of the UFO found in Walter's home after he moved out seems ridiculous; why leave such damning evidence behind? Why stick it where it wouldn't be easily found, yet found it was?
Then there was the strange story that appeared in the news around the same time; something about three (if I remember it right) G.I.'s who went "crazy," and talked about UFOs, among other things. There was a Gulf Breeze connection there; I don't know if they were from Gulf Breeze, or went there on a "mission" listening to some voice they heard, or what. I tried to find some links to this but didn't find anything. (Plus, I was in a hurry.) If anyone recognizes what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate the info.
As far as hoaxes go, the article quotes Barry Karr, Director of CSI (formerly CSICOP) who supports the late Philip Klass's belief Gulf Breeze sightings were a hoax:
'I really don't think there's any question the Gulf Breeze sightings were a hoax,' Karr said.`There are things in the sky that can't be identified, especially near an air base. Just because it can't be identified doesn't mean it's a visitor from another planet.'
This is typical chronic skeptic disingenuousness; while it's true that it's an assumption, and only an assumption, that these UFOs and entities are extraterrestrial, there's still a whole lot of strange things going on that validate investigation.
(I also wonder at Karr's syntax: he says "there's (no) question the Gulf Breeze sightings were a hoax," which implies intentional deception, but in the same breath says "There are things in the sky that can't be identified, especially near an air base. Just because it can't be identified doesn't mean it's a visitor from another planet.'
Which is it, a hoax, or misidentifications, or misperceptions, of military craft? It's as if Karr is trying to cover all bases; hoax, assumptions, misinterpretations/misidentifications -- it's all bunk, no matter the reason. Just dazzle them with blanket dismissal and move on.)
Personally, I think the entire Gulf Breeze events were military experiments on an entire town, and Ed Walters was their prime guinea pig. If this is true, it's almost as astounding as entities from outer space. To brush the thing off as mere lights in the sky that can't be identified ignores this possibility.

Theres a new player in the UFO hunt, though it remains to be seen whether this show will be a perennial player, or if its just a flash in the pan (I.E. a pilot that doesnt pan out -- Disc. seems to be showing a lot of "one shots" in their Monday night time slot right now). This episode looks at a spate of recent (spring and summer 2008) sightings in Pensylvania. After interviewing a number of witnesses, the investigators -- all members of MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) -- narrow their focus to two witnesses. One is a retiree, who seems very credible and has no obvious reason to make up his two sightings, and the other is a woman who claims both multiple sightings and to have pictures of the alleged UFO. Unfortunately, the first witness has no actual proof, just a compelling story. So the MUFON folks recreate his sighting using their CGI equipment, and filddle with the simulation until the witness approves the octagonal-shaped craft and the sighting conditions.
The woman witness proves both more interesting and problematic. Her picture evidence is unimpressive (the usual blurred lights), and one image even seems to match up to the position of the moon and Jupiter on the night in question. Additionally, she claims to have seen some kind of glittering dust falling from the UFO into one of the trees in her yard, only to have the dust then return to the UFO. Despite claiming that this phenomnon lasted 20 minutes, she has no photos. The group takes cuttings from the tree and sends them to a scientist, who claims that the tree was subjected to radiation which caused mutation in the leaves. Fortunately (for science), the group then sends the sample to another expert, who says the first expert is totally wrong; there is no evidence of either radiation or mutation. I was impressed by this, as most shows of this kind consistently fail to get a second opinion -- prefering to go with the most sensational finding (and dubious expert) possible. The group also re-creates the womans sighting, and she is very moved by the compupter-generated recreation. This makes the group believe that she is sincere, though they retain some skepticism about her report. This would be my only reservation about this episode -- that they give a witness more leeway than perhaps they should. (To me, at least, the dust part of her sighting seems more like a waking dream.) Fortunately, the MUFON folks make up for this lapse of "toughness" in the Mexico show. (See following review.)
This show is to MUFON what "UFO Hunters" is to" UFO Magazine" -- that is, the program seems to be built around the people in the group and their interests. And I have to say, from what Ive seen so far, I find this show much more interesting. Where "UFO Hunters" (the History Channel one, not the SciFi series which had one show and then disappeared -- seemingly for good) is built around UFO mythology and "investigating" classic sightings -- nearly all of which seem to be more than 20 years old. This show is tackling sightings that are current (2008 as this is written). I find the immediacy much more compelling. The witnesses have had less time to become "set" in their stories, or to forget or embelish details. (Though, as regular readers know, I dont put a lot of stock in witness reports; see the review of "Unsolved History: Roswell" - a.k.a. "UFOs Over America "for a scientific study of witness memory.) Also, the MUFON crew seems much more interested in finding out whats really happening than in building the UFO mythology. In the Mexico show (see review), they even state this goal specifically. So far, Im favorably impressed. The "crew" may not be as flashy and memorable as "UFO Hunters" or "Ghost Hunters", but theyre serious about their work and asking the hard questions that "UFO Hunters" -- for one -- seldom wants to ask.

There was a group of three lads letting them off and three more riding on bikes to see how far they were going. They were laughing at all the people staring."Police were called to investigate the lights and hundreds of people have since logged onto this website to see the objects floating over Stretford. The sightings follow a Ministry of Defence report which revealed two UFO sightings last year in Chorlton and Irlam. Stephen Mera, founder of the Manchester Association of Paranormal Investigators and Training,said: "There are usually between 80 and 90 sightings a year and the vast majority of them are these lanterns or balloons. They only cost around lb3 and can be set off within minutes of being bought." This year has been an unusually large number of sightings with more than 150 UFOs reported. Only around 4 per cent turn out to be unexplainable. Some witnesses claimed the UFOs were too big to be lanterns and disappeared in an instant but Mr Mera has a theory. He said: "It's very hard to judge how big something is in the sky because there is nothing to compare things with. As for the disappearing, the lantern more than likely just went behind low cloud cover rather than vanish into thin air."According to Mr Mera, the lanterns have been set off all summer and Thursday's `UFOs' were the results of a particularly successful launch.He said: "I think we'll see more of these throughout the summer. It's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last."

MARCH 23, 2013 - CANADA - A witness has reported sighting a UFO hovering over an aeroplane in Lowe Farm, Manitoba on 14 March, 2013 at 4:20 PM. This report has been obtained from a testimony included in the database of Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
The witness begins the report by describing what he was doing at the time of the alleged sighting. He also talks about the location, direction and altitude of the UFO.
"I was walking my parents' dog on a gravel road near their farm approximately 3 miles outside of the town of Lowe Farm when I saw a low flying Airplane coming towards me at a fairly low altitude heading in a southwest direction in a straight line of travel,"

The witness then talks about the color and appearance of the object.
"I noticed that there was a grey object directly above this airplane as it appeared very metallic and shiny which instantly caught my eye."
The witness further talks about the diameter and altitude of the UFO. He also tells us that the object did not make any noise.
"I am not certain as to how many feet above the plane this object was, but estimate it was several thousand feet. It was close enough to tell that it had a large diameter, and produced no noise on top of the noise from the low flying airplane."
The witness then compares the object to another UFO he had witnessed in the past.
"The object that I witnessed appeared to be an exact match to a sighting that I witnessed on December 12 2011 in Morris, MB. The major difference in this case is that there was no smell of sulphur as I witnessed before, and that this object was moving at a faster rate of speed."
He also talks about how long he was able to view the UFO and the plane.
"I was able to view both the airplane and the object for approximately 2 minutes before losing sight of them."
The witness then tells us that he was not physically affected by the object and also says that he is unsure if the object caused any electrical interference.
"I was not physically affected in any way by the object and did not have any devices on me at the time so it is unknown as to whether or not there was electrical interference at the time."
He further tells us that he was unable to view this object as clearly as the object he had viewed in the past and expresses his certainty about the two objects being similar.
"I was unable to see this object as clearly as I did on my Dec 12 2011 sighting but am almost certain that the object was indeed identical."
Finally, the witness describes how he has been watching the skies since his last UFO sighting.
" I have been watching the skies in this region since my first sighting and this has been the first UFO I have witnessed since that time."

Over at Tim Binnall's website "Binnall of America" I interview Mack Maloney, author of the new book "UFOs in Wartime". In the 1950s Soviet espionage was rampant as the Russians had infiltrated every aspect of American society from the White House to the State Department to the military and even the old OSS.
The Russian intelligence agencies battled it out with their western counterparts as the red scare of the 1950s set in to the American mindset. One very intriguing aspect of this spy war is that even though the FBI knew who many of these Soviet agents were, they could not be prosecuted because of how they were unmasked. You see, the Army Security Agency (predecessor to the NSA) was actively breaking the Soviet code under a top secret program knows as the Venona Project. The project decryptions helped the FBI track down and break up a number of Soviet espionage rings, but some of these spies avoided prosecution because the incriminating evidence collected was too classified to reveal in a court of law. It was better to let these spies walk away free then to risk compromising the existence of the Venona Project.
How does this apply to Ufology? Well let's consider the following hypothetical scenario: A foreign intelligence agency approaches a prominent UFO researcher and promises to finance their research in exchange for any information found, knowing that some of the data provided may actually relate to new exotic American military aircraft. Now let's say that American Counter-Intelligence is not very happy and would really like to put this prominent UFO researcher in the same jail cell as Gary McKinnon for compromising national security. UFO LANDING IN CLARKSVILLE, MICHIGAN ON AUGUST 17TH 2013 - SILVER, REFLECTIVE OBJECT WITH A RED LIGHT SITTING IN THE ROAD. THOUGHT IT WAS A POLICE CAR BUT DISAPPEARED.
I was driving west on a hilly road north of Ionia heading toward M66. At the top of a hill I saw a silver, reflective object sitting in the road maybe 1,000 ft ahead. I thought it looked like it was sitting off the north side of the road. It appeared to have a red light flashing on the top, however the reflecting light was very bright and made it difficult to tell. I thought it was a police car. I lost sight going down hill and saw it again maybe 30 secs later when I crested the next hill. This time I saw it for a longer period of time and it appeared to be sitting stationary in the middle of the road. I was closer but having a harder time telling if it had a flashing red light. I still thought it was a police car and wondering if it was blocking the road. It was between me and 66. There was no road to turn off on between me and 66. I went down the hill again and when I came up it was gone. Then I came up the next hill and I was where it had been sitting. I'd guess it was roughly a minute between where I lost sight of it and when I reached where it was sitting. I saw nothing a police car would be blocking the road for and I had a straight, clear view down the rest of the road (about 2,000-2,500 ft), all the way to 66 and saw no cars. If it turned off, it would have to be in someone's driveway and I didn't see it in anyone's driveway. I suppose it is possible it could have reached the end of the road and turned by then. I was still trying to figure out where the police car went when I saw a big metal pole barn on the south side of the road with all it's doors open. In it was a big black truck with red tail lights (I thought they were glowing) sitting in the barn. I thought "Oh, I must have seen that truck". Within a few seconds a tree blocked my view and when I saw the barn again, it was full of green farm machinery and a man was standing out front who I didn't see before. No black truck, nothing that looked like a black truck, or even looked like red tail lights. At this point, I was a little freaked and started thinking about the 'police car'. The state police vehicles are dark blue and I was not close enough to any city that it was likely to be their car. Also the light I saw only flashed red and not blue. I would hate to report a police car sighting but this seemed odd to me. I can give a more accurate location, but I don't want to submit it publicly.
